Organic Kerala Matta rice is a GI tagged indigenous variety of rice grown By Daksh Farm at Palakkad District of Kerala. We ensure the barn is intact with the rice and is not lost in the milling process.

When cooked, the natural red color in the bran or hull of the rice, leaches out and dyes the rest of the dish red to pink. Matta rice is high in fiber because of the bran and the flavor is much stronger than that of hulled rice, tasting more nutty and full. It has a soft texture and does not become sticky when cooked. This Matta Rice is ideal for Heart and Diabetic Patients as it has glucose and cholesterol lowering capacity.

Daksh Farm matta rice is  processed in traditional way, sun dried, milled and packed with at most care ensuring the nutrients of matta rice is intact. Before processing the rice is aged for 6 months.

History of Matta rice
The unique rice is mentioned in Tamil Classics like Thirukkural. During the ancient times Palghat District was part of Tamil Nadu. Rice in the days of Chera/Chola Kingdoms was considered as a royal food. One adventurous farmer chanced upon this unique rice variety in the king’s farm and carried it away in a “Matta” meaning “Areca Leaf’. The rice variety fell into the public domain and was sown by the farmer and soon became a regular rice crop in Palakkad. This rice was popularly referred to as “Matta” and exclusively cultivated in Palakkad and later came to be known as the Kerala Matta Rice.
